Wisdom and Fellowship

Changes to the Newsletter

Hello Maury Men,

I have been very encouraged to see the community of believers in Maury County (and adjacent) grow in our walk with the Lord and in fellowship with one another. As we grow, I would like to encourage you to pray for wisdom and for the continued blessing of the Lord on our fellowship and families.

We represent at least four different congregations, which have some distance both physically and in belief. We are, however, commanded to "love one another with brotherly affection" and are united by a vision of seeing the Lord work in Maury County.

Therefore, read your Bible, pray, and keep in good fellowship with other men of the faith.

On a practical note, in this newsletter I have been including events that are specific to Parish Presbyterian Church. I no longer intend to do so. Instead, I would encourage each of you to find whatever newsletter or other form of communication your church uses and subscribe.

Discipleship Group Updates

I hope the time of discipleship this week was encouraging for you. It is exciting to see the Lord at work in our community. At the young men's gathering on Thursday, Keith gave us a good reminder of the goals of growing in the Spiritual Disciplines:

1) to develop lifetime practices of the spiritual disciplines, resulting in a group of godly and faithful men, fully equipped to advance Christ’s Kingdom in our midst.

2) to be fully engaged in holding one another accountable in their pursuit of holiness, upholding the weak and encouraging one another in their pursuit.

3) to become a discipler - once equipped with the knowledge and practices of discipleship, begin a life of discipling others, first in your family, and always taking on other faithful men who will in turn be equipped to disciple others.

Furthermore, you are encouraged to work on memorizing 2 Timothy 3:16-17

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

General Updates

  • If you would like to join our Bible reading accountability group text, please email Ben Scoones at: [email protected]

  • There is a gathering of men that meets at Cabin Coffee on Fridays at 7:00 AM. They are doing book studies on Lectures on Calvinism and The Confessional County (each week alternates the book in focus - next week, on the 10th, will be The Confessional County). This is an excellent opportunity to grow in fellowship with local men who are a part of the body of Christ and to take part in the study and conversation that is growing the kingdom in Maury County.

  • On a similar note, there is a small gathering of men at Briarworks on Mondays at about 7:00 PM. This is a very informal time for us to grow together as a community and also to be salt and light in the world.

  • We are seeking to have a representative of Care Portal come speak to us at a future Thursday Gathering.

Upcoming

  • Thursday, February 16, 5:30 PM - Our Monthly Men's Fellowship Gathering. Food is provided (please message Hawk Holcomb to let him know you will be there). BYOB.

In Christ,

– Jonathan
